We believe that architecture is not merely about solving a defined design problem. Architectural design is about asking new questions, redefining problems from different perspectives, and going beyond the main goal to posit and solve other related issues as well. We approach each project from a fresh perspective, try to develop innovative designs that meet the specific needs of the project in question, rather than relying on pre-learned solutions. The reason for this is not only to create well-thought-out spaces offering high comfort that are suitable for the day, but also to create buildings and environments that are compatible with the future. The diversity of our approach strengthens our ability to produce solutions unique to each problem’s context and solution in a creative way. During the design process, we expand our creative potential by developing “tailor-made solutions” that focus on the context of that specific problem to tell the story of the specific context. Since our establishment, we have insisted on working for various building types rather than specializing in a specific field of expertise. We value all kinds of decisions and examinations that emphasize quality, and we do not see research-examination-user feedback, evaluation, dialogue and negotiation processes as a waste of time. We engage in architectural and urban design practices at every scale, size, and type. We understand that success cannot be achieved without interdisciplinary work, which is why we consider research to become a necessary part of every project. Our project processes include providing comprehensive services at every stage, from sketches to the finest details of construction. Even after the project’s completion, we continue to offer supervision and consulting services to ensure that the design’s spirit is maintained at the construction site.

We work intensively in the digital realm as well as in physical modeling. By using three-dimensional design tools effectively in the pre-implementation stages of our design ideas, we ensure that every detail is planned and controlled throughout the design process.

We believe that the qualitative values of a building is achieved within the network of relationships it establishes with the urban context. Design should be approached in an integrated manner with the city and should be sensitive to the dynamics of the context of the building and environment. We do not separate the disciplines of architecture and urban design; rather, we synthesize the different approaches required in these two scales of operation to produce comprehensive solutions. Our fundamental approach is not to evaluate architectural design within the boundaries of the building alone, but to explore the reflections of the details discussed at the building scale in the urban context, while also discussing decisions and constraints that come from the planning scale. In this context, we conduct a multi-layered design process, taking into account the dynamic interaction between micro and macro scales. We aim to ensure that urban design is not only related to the physical environment but also to social and cultural networks, supporting urban life in a quality manner.

We adopt a multidisciplinary approach in urban design processes. By working with urban planners, economists, energy efficiency experts, and professionals from other fields of expertise, we address the different dimensions required by the urban context in a holistic way.

We believe that any exhibition should be a process that is in harmony with the space and should provide an unforgettable experience for the visitor, beyond just a presentation of content. We work in coordination with the entire team from the exhibition curator to the graphic designer at every stage of the exhibition, from the idea stage to the smallest implementation detail.

We offer visitors new experiences that are rich in spatial awareness, sensory, and intellectual dimensions. We make the exhibition space not just a backdrop but a part of the story being exhibited, allowing visitors to establish a deeper connection with the content. In our design process, we use innovative technologies and creative spatial solutions to design unique experiences that enhance visitors' interaction with the space. We handle our projects from the first concept phase to the final technical specifications and implementation, to preserve the integrity of our projects with the importance we give to details at every stage.
 

Design problems do not always present themselves clearly and definitively. The story of each project takes shape by asking the right questions and seeking the right answers. Sometimes defining the problem behind a client’s request, or clarifying a need we observe in the urban context requires an in-depth exploration process. In such cases, we develop different perspectives by exploring knowledge and literature from fields of architecture, technology, engineering, and other disciplines.

Design research of every type and scale adds deeper and multiple unique values to our projects. At every stage of the process, we shape our design by conducting analyses of cultural, functional, and technological requirements without disconnecting the project from its context. This approach, based on creative explorations, allows us to move away from pre-learned solutions and generate fresh and original ideas.

With the employers, we share the flow charts we create with our own designers and stakeholders and strive for a healthy design process. The importance of project integrity comes to the fore from the contextual perspective from the parcel scale to detailed decisions at the regional scale. The integrity of a design approach is ensured with harmonious work for collective production, starting from the problem definition. Consultancy, supervision, and advisory services are received or outsourced for required issues in terms of expertise. It is essential to share all possible details with each requester, starting from the problem definition. The strategic approach that each project requires with a different emphasis, is agreed upon during the project team-work process, and is shared with the employer with all aspects and altrnatives in their variations and a common roadmap is created.

Basically, we practice in the fields of architectural design, architectural detailing, interior architecture, environmental and landscape design, and urban design. Therefore, since we attach importance to the strategic perspective, we also produce services in specialized areas such as program development in/for architecture, consultancy in architectural investment, planning for urban infrastructure, urban landscape planning, green recycling, and advanced recycling.

 

The risk of the ideas developed during the design process evolving into another path with new actors who do not have a grasp on the spirit and details of the design during the construction process may cause the design to lose its originality and identity. Therefore, managing the entire process until the building finds its user is a priority for us. For FREA, this is the most effective way to preserve and implement the true meaning and quality of the design.

We remember that the architect has been not only a thinker but also a maker throughout history. This is of critical value not only for the successful construction of the design, but also for the design and construction processes to continue to be dynamic procedures that learn and feed from each other. While we test everything we learn during the design process in the construction phase, every new information and articulation we gain adds our design practice further. This cycle of continuous learning and development is one of the cornerstones of FREA's design philosophy.
