With its multi-layered spatial organization, the strong relationship it establishes with the city, its programmatic diversity capable of serving diverse users simultaneously, and the public qualities integrated with daily life, it is not a mere sports facility but a new focal point that nourishes public life at Esenler.
ENTRANCES FROM DIFFERENT LEVELS
Topographic differences of the site play a fundamental role in design decisions. The building integrates with topography by stepping naturally on this multi-leveled terrain. Building entrances defined at three different levels support the multi-faceted relationship established with diverse users, such as athletes, fans, and the neighborhood residents. This way, distinct circulation scenarios focused on athletes, residents, and spectators have been proposed simultaneously. The upper-level entrance of the sports hall, situated within a dense urban fabric, that establishes a direct relationship with the neighborhood, provides direct access to the hall and the swimming pool. An inclined square designed in front of this entrance defines a soft transition, inviting the user into the building.
A PUBLIC ROOF GARDEN
The roof of the building has been rendered as a recreation area and designed with the idea of a public garden accessible within the daily experience of the neighborhood residents. This upper plateau is the new breathing space within urban fabric, a green ground integrated with daily life. The spaces located at the mid-level of the hall are areas where the densest user circulation of the building program intersects; access for athletes and daily users is provided from here. The entrance hall at this level serves as a distribution point directing users to both the swimming pool and the indoor sports hall. On the lower level, an entrance is configured from the neighborhood; thus, the new connection defined integrates the artificial turf on the ground level with the building.
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM
The program of the building addresses to become a multi-functional sports hall and social center. Public uses such as a hall for indoor sports, a short-course swimming pool, spaces for martial arts, locker units, administrative volumes, and a cafeteria are present. Thus, the building becomes a centre, hosting flexible scenarios of both amateur and professional sports. Entrances provided at different levels and the permeable design in the interiors allow these diverse functions operate independently, in a seamless spatial continuity.
