ABOUT

FREA, Founded in Ankara in 2013, FREA is an architecture and design practice aiming for searching and discovering fresh ideas. FREA is a new layer added to the architectural practices of co-founders Fatih Yavuz and Emre Savural, who had been previously running onbir41 architecture studio for ten years.

As a young and innovative architecture and urban design studio, FREA aspires to find fresh ideas and creative solutions to problems and believes in the power of collective production. The team respects and frequently participate in architectural design competitions as an intellectual platform to remain Fresh. They have won several awards, including five 1st prizes. The METU Northern Cyprus Campus Engineering Lab project was nominated for the Building Award at the 10th National Architecture Awards. In 2014 the team was among the finalists
at Architecture+Design Turkey Young Architects Award with the same project and recently it won the grand prize at the Turgut Cansever National Architecture Awards 2017.

Completing several projects on different scales, FREA embraces
an architectural approach that ascribes importance to user satisfaction, and to the design’s relation with its surrounding environment. FREA believes that quality comes before quantity. Embracing the problem and working through it is as important as merely finding a solution; and for that, the team focuses on
the quality of the process as much as their final product.

FATIH YAVUZ

was born in 1981 in Izmir, Turkey. He received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Middle East Technical University’s Faculty of Architecture in 2003. In 2006, he followed up his B.A. with a master’s degree from the same department with the dissertation of his thesis, entitled “The Architecture of New Territories: The Dutch Embassy in Berlin.” He worked for various competition and architectural projects at the several established offices, between the years of 2002 and 2004. He participated in the organization committee of the 7th National Meeting of Architecture Students, organized by METU in 2003. His graduation project, Macka Hotel, was awarded the “1st Honorable Mention” in Archiprix-TR 2003. He participated as a half-time instructor at the 2nd year studios of METU, as well as in the design studios at TOBB University of Economics and Technology. Yavuz also takes part in a number of architecture departments at various universities as a jury member. Along with his architectural practices, he participates in events and workshops as a member of the Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice (TSMD), and the “Architects’ Association 1927”. Following his time working at onbir41, where he was the co-founder between 2003 and 2013, he now continues his practice at FREA with his partner Emre Savural.

EMRE SAVURAL

was born in 1980 in Izmir, Turkey. He graduated from Middle East Technical University’s Faculty of Architecture in 2003. Between the years of 2002 and 2004, he participated in several competitions and architectural projects with several recognized architectural offices. He contributed to the organization committee of the 7th National Meeting of Architecture Students, organized by METU in 2003. He is actively taking part in events and workshops as a member of the Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice (TSMD). From 2014 to 2016, Savural worked as a half-time instructor at the architectural design studio at TOBB University of Economics and Technology. He still participates as a jury member in the studios at architectural departments of several universities and national competitions. After co-founding and working at onbir41 between 2003 and 2013, he now continues his practice at FREA with his partner Fatih Yavuz in Ankara.

PINAR UNAL

1983 yılında Almanya'da doğdu. Lisans öncesi tüm eğitim hayatını Ankara'da tamamladıktan sonra 2008 yılında Gazi Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü'nden mezun oldu. 2003 yılından itibaren çeşitli mimarlık ofisleri ve inşaat firmalarında çalışmış olup, 2020 yılında FREA Mimarlık ile çalışmaya başlamıştır.

HANDE SOYAL

was born in 1995 in Sivas. She graduated From Yozgat Şehitler Science High School in 2013. She completed his undergraduate education at the Department of Architecture at Gazi University in 2017. She started working at FREA in 2021.

GUNEY GURSU TONKAL

was born in 1997 in Giresun. He graduated from Giresun IMKB AOL in 2015. He completed his undergraduate education at the Department of Architecture at Middle East Technical University in 2021. He attended various architectural workshops during his undergraduate education. He took part in the establishment of the Metu Studio V Student Society. He published his articles and poems in literary magazines and blogs. He is still working as a member of the editorial board of TSMD Serbest Mimarlar Dergisi.

BUSRA ASAROGLU

was born in 1990 in Tokat.She graduated from Tokat Milli Piyango İhya Balak Scince High School in 2008.She completed his undergraduate education at the Department of Architecture at European University of Lefke in 2012.She started working at FREA in 2021.

CEYDA TOKCAN

was born in 1998 in Sakarya. She graduated from Sakarya Cevat Ayhan Science High School in 2016. In 2021, she completed her undergraduate education at Gazi University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture. During her undergraduate education, she took part in many programs related to architecture and branches supporting the field. She took part in the board of directors of Gazi University Architecture and Illustration Society. She did her internship at Mesa Mesken & Nurol Holding joint project, then at Frea Architecture. As of 2021, she started to work at Frea.

FATMA IREM SANLI

Was born in 1997 in Izmir. She graduated from Burdur Ercan Akın Science High School in 2015. In 2021, she completed her bachelor degree at Izmir Institute of Technology, Department of Architecture. During her architectural education, she took part in the board of ıı IYTE Installation Art Production Community and in various workshops. She studied at Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen in 2019 with the ERASMUS Program. While studying, she worked as a freelancer with her interest in graphic design. She did internship at Türkerler & Gama Holding joint project, then at Tümaş Holding. She started working at FREA as of 2021.

FREA | Studio, FREA, Fatih Yavuz ve Emre Şavural tarafından 2013 yılında Ankara'da kuruldu. FREA, 2003-2013 yılları arasındaki onbir41 deneyiminden sonra taze fikirler arayışına yoğunlaşmış bir tasarım ofisi olmayı hedefler.
