BORNOVA WORLD OF CHILDREN AND TWO AWARDS ON TWO DIFFERENT SIDE OF THE BALANCE
The Colloquium of the Bornova World of the Children Competition which the decision of the first and second prices was quite argumentative taken place at Yeşilova Höyüğü Guest Center at 28 May, 13.40.
Halil İbrahim Alparslan who is also the jury member made the opening speech about the competitions and why they are the ideal and most fair way to select projects. He also congratulates the municipality of Bornova for their choice to select projects for public buildings via competitions.
Behind Alparslan, Olgun Atilla, the city manager, went up the rostrum and he states that Bornova is proud of to play host to this competition. After construction of the building, this building will be a pioneer of children spaces in Turkey and there will be visitors from other cities to this building where children are learning by playing.
The award ceremony followed the speech of the city manager. After the jury members take their places, by the moderation of the Öget Cöcet, the member of the municipality council, the colloquium had been started.
The first words from the jury were belonging to the Hikmet Gökmen: The most ignored users are the children. I think that this project would be a pioneer in creating more spaces for children. We see that there are many studies about the architecture for children. The main aim of these studies is creating spaces where children can spend time besides their time on the school. So, what are the benefits of these spaces to the children, parents, and society They provide cognitive, physical, social and mental progress. Moreover, children who experience these kinds of space at such a young age, develop a sense of design and architecture.
After Hikmet Hökmen’s speech, collegium had been started and competitors are begun to talk. Orhan Ersan states that” The function which was defined as the world of children in the contract, became a museum of children. For example, I read the first project as a Museum of children while the second one is read as the world of children” …
